Brothers,
Greetings and may the Holy Spirit continue to draw us closer to Jesus Christ and His Church during this Lenten season.
February is a short month, but we did have some very positive events and activities. Our first was building food bags for Isaiah House, which our council spent just under $1000 purchasing food for. Coffee & Donuts ran smoothly, and I saw both old and new faces volunteering. I love to see this, let’s keep the trend going! Our Blood Drive recruitment and event were a big success, and our awesome director Carlos Chacaliaza wanted to give special thanks to following volunteers: PGK Mike Sofka, DGK Mark Angel, and PGK John Teeter, who I think drove directly from surgery to the Blood Drive! The mandatory Emergency Training held at church was necessary and insightful. Our council also sponsored/prepared/served the first Lenten dinner on 2/20. Thank you to all who helped out, and to PGK’s Dave Atkins and John Teeter for spearheading it.
Upcoming events/activities for March include our Council Meeting on March 4, First Friday Adoration on 3/6, the Men’s Renewal on 3/7,8, Coffee & Donuts on 3/8, Our St. Patrick’s Day Dinner on 3/14, an Exemplification on 3/16, the Officer’s Planning meeting on 3/18, a Campus Cleanup on 3/21, and Saturday Recycling on 3/28. Show up and get to know your brothers!
Our “Saint of the Month” for March is St. Margaret Mary Alacoque. She is perhaps most famous for her visions of Jesus leading to the devotion to His Sacred Heart. This is a powerful devotion in the Church, and one that seemed much more popular during my days as an altar server in the Boston suburbs as a kid. Like Padre Pio, St. Margaret Mary was doubted by many during and after her short life, and wasn’t canonized until 230 years after her death. Her devotion to the Sacred Heart was initially fostered after her death by the Jesuits, and it was controversial at the time.
She was born in 1647 in France, and from an early age showed an intense love for the Blessed Sacrament. She experienced visions of Jesus Christ for most of her life, but always thought this was normal. She died at the age of 43, and her final words were, “I need nothing but God, and to lose myself in the heart of Jesus.” Her body was exhumed 200 years after her death and found incorrupt.
May almighty God Bless and protect us and our families. St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, pray for us! Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!
Saint Margaret Mary
Alacoque
