KNIGHT OF THE MONTH
NORRIE OLMO

by: Ricardo Teano, Membership Committee

Congratulations to Norrie as the unanimously chosen Knight of the month. Norrie’s presence in so many knights and church events made him the number one choice by the officers. Norrie, Numero Uno!

Norrie joined the Knights of Columbus 7yrs ago because he felt a calling to deepen his faith and to be part of something bigger than himself. What really moved him to join was the sense of brotherhood and purpose; being able to support his parish, help those in need and grow spiritually. Over the years, being a Knight has strengthened his faith, given him meaningful friendships, and allowed him to live out his values in action. Now, he is a 4th degree Knight and is the latest member of Council 9487 to join our Distinguished Color Corps Guards.

Joseph, Francis Ann, Norrie, & Nathan Olmo

Our honoree was born into the Catholic faith. His parents were active in serving their parish back in the Philippines. As a young child, Norrie witnessed his parent’s time, talent and sincerity to serve and helped them to serve while growing up. As he grew older, he realized that being Catholic is not just something you inherit, it is something you choose to live every day. Through the teachings, sacraments, and the example of his family, his faith became more personal and meaningful. Being part of the Catholic Church has guided his values, strengthened his relationship with God, & taught him the importance of service, compassion and community. He has been a parishioner in Santiago for 36 yrs.

Norrie is the father of 2 boys; his eldest, Joseph, was the President of the Key Club here in South O.C. during his high school days. The boys are active in a lot of volunteering and outreach programs. His youngest, Nathan, is now a new Knight of Columbus. Norrie has been blessed to be a member of the Knight for so many years, and during that time, his involvement has become an important part of both his faith life and his commitment to service. Through Council 9487, he has participated in a variety of spiritual and charitable activities including parish support events, community outreach programs and assisting in church functions - too many to list. These experiences have allowed him to live out the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity in most meaningful and practical ways.

His family plays a significant role in their shared commitment to the Church. Ann, his wife, is a member of the Santiago Minstrels choir and Nathan shared his time by doing hospitality at 12:00 mass every Sunday. Aside from serving our parish, they also drive to Anaheim to have a Friday prayer Ministry/community bible/ prayer meeting at St. Thomas Korean Catholic Church. As family they share their time and treasure in helping children from the Philippines who have no families.

Overall, his involvement with the knights and church has been a journey of faith, service and personal growth. It strengthened not only his own spiritual life, but also the bond within his family and friends as they continue to serve the Church and our community together.

Norrie appreciates how Council 9487 hosts as many charitable events that they can be involved with. The camaraderie among knights from different backgrounds coming together with a shared purpose, form friendships that feel like an extended family. It’s a joy.

Congratulations, Norrie!
