It is my pleasure to present an amazing family who qualifies very well into the honored list of our Council’s Family of the Month. Rey and Suzanne is a team couple who has served our church and council well. Rey joined the knights immediately after his retirement from Cox, July, 2024 where he worked for 30 years. Now a 3rd degree knight, he did his Exemplification on March 31, 2025.
The whole family were born and raised Catholics. Rey and Suzanne both went to a Catholic school from Elementary to College. They became parishioners of Santiago in 1990, moved to St Timothy and St Kilian but have returned to Santiago in 2009. Rey and Suzanne have 2 boys, Mico, 37 years old, an MD Internal Medicine practicing at UC Davis and his wife is doing a Fellowship in Nephrology; also UC Davis. Their second son is Jermel, 30 years old, an RN in UCR Medical Center Orange as a Psych Nurse. He is engaged and will celebrate his marriage in November of this year.
Rey, in his early years at Santiago did carpentry works for the church through Father Thomas. The most prominent being the Ark of Prayer box for intentions at the altar. He built the carosa for the early Camino and has volunteered as a long-time member to many manpower needs in the church. He also headed up the 12:00 noon Mass hospitality ministers. Rey is also a member of the Filipino group and helps with Simbang Gabi.
Suzanne has done an amazing array of church volunteer work. She is a Bereavement Minister since 2017, and is the Audio Visual Liturgical Media Coordinator managing the schedules. She was instrumental in putting this ministry together even before the pandemic. She also served as a baptism minister for a year in 2016, and as a Sacristan, Altar Server, and Eucharistic minister. Additionally, she finds time to be plan and coordinate 3 buses for VISTA IGLESIA during Holy Week. During our local Camino, The Camino De Santiago, she is in-charge of the registration of about 750 pilgrim walkers. At the Church festival she is in charge of this very festive Tumbola booth for 3 years. She is also a member of the Liturgical Parish Council, the Stewardship Parish Council, Marian Devotee, FFRG, a Filipino Rosary group, and Minstrel choir.
I am not done yet. Suzanne supports Father Thomas in his other special affairs. She has coordinated and helped plan 6 pilgrimages of Father Thomas and the upcoming trip to Medjugorje. On local occasions, Suzanne is the chief coordinator of Father’s, priestly anniversary, birthdays, and special events and functions.
Rey thinks the Knights of Columbus is a great organization to be a member of, as it helps promote church activities and projects. As a very active member he attends the meetings, helps in Recycle program every Monday morning, the carwash, cooking turkey dinners for Thanksgiving, and as a Hospitality Minister for Sunday noon Mass with fellow knights.
Our congratulations to Rey and Suzanne as the most deserving Family of the Month as chosen by the council Officers.
