Brothers,
Our October activities:
One of the highlights for me was the March for Life at Christ Cathedral, where Brother Paul Tovar and I helped carry the canopy over the Blessed Sacrament during the Eucharistic Procession. Brother Ricardo Teano also attended in uniform. The Brizio's Fundraiser was both fun and successful as always (thank you PGK Mike Sofka). Campus Cleanup was much better attended than the last one and we got a lot accomplished. I think this year's All-Hallows Festival was the most well attended and lively in recent memory. Thank you, Brother Mike Ulibarri, for leading the American Booth, and PGK's John Teeter, Dave Atkins and Brother Patrick Bole for managing the Beer Gardens.
November activities include: Our general council meeting on 11/5, First Friday Adoration on 11/7, a Car Wash Fundraiser supporting Marriage Encounter on 11/15, a busy 11/22 starting with building food bags for Isaiah House, pre-selling Poinsettias, and our Thanksgiving Dinner. Pre-selling Poinsettias will continue on Sunday, 11/23. We will have another Saturday recycling on 11/29, and finally another Corporate Communion on 11/30.
Our “Saint of the Month” for November is Bernard Francis Casey, born the sixth of sixteen children to Irish immigrant parents in 1870. Upon joining the Franciscans, he took the name Solanus, and today is known as Blessed Solanus Casey. Before becoming a priest, he worked as a lumberjack, prison guard (where he befriended members of the Jesse James gang) and a trolley operator. Due to his poor academic background and struggles learning, he was ordained a “simplex” priest: he could celebrate Mass, but not preach the sermon or do confessions. For most of his time as a Franciscan priest in New York, he was a doorman/receptionist at the Monastery. He was also, by the grace and power of God, a renowned healer and spiritual adviser.
May almighty God Bless and protect us and our families. Blessed Solanus Casey, pray for us! Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!
