Council Activities

The Grand Knight for 2024-2025 is Tom Sixsmith. You can contact him by phone at (949) 500-6358.

Council Meetings

Council meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month, and are held in the parish hall at Santiago de Compostela Catholic Church.

About Our Council

Bishop Johnson Council was founded in 1987 through the efforts of a steering committee consisting of Father Bill Krekelberg, Jerry Gau, Dick Gregg, Eddie Brown, Henry Teterault, Ray Ruddy, Vince Hohman, and Jesse Messersmith. The council name was selected in honor and memory of Bishop William R. Johnson, the first Bishop of the Orange Diocese. Bishop Johnson Council works closely with the Santiago de Compostela Parish in Lake Forest, providing funds for various projects, members being active participants in their parish.

Grand Knight’s Report

If you didn’t have a chance to attend the September General meeting, we were honored to have Chapter President Jeff Rice join us and share some historical facts about Santiago de Compostela and the surrounding area. Some interesting history and background of many of the area names and where they came from. He also awarded Ricardo with a special Knights jacket for his super recruiting efforts he’s been doing over the years. Way to go our super achiever, Ricardo! Afterwards, Jeff shared that he was very impressed with our Council and the many good activities we are engaged in.

Since I have some international travel the last week of September, I am writing this a letter earlier than normal, but the following activities are planned or happened during September:

We held another successful breakfast burrito sale on the 8th, headed up by Vince Vasquez and his crew. Our parish exemplification on September 24th with 11 new inductees at SDC. Father Thomas and Ricardo just coming back from their pilgrimage attended. Also in late September will be a spaghetti dinner on the 28th.

For October activities-

  • Walk for Life at Christ’s Cathedral on the 5th
  • Brizio fundraiser on Tuesday the 8th
  • Burger Bash on the 12th on the pavilion
  • Knights’ donut on the 13th
  • Garden of Innocence 10:00, Campus clean-up 1:00, on the 19th
  • Parish Festival on the 24/25th

Lots of activities to take advantage of!

Noted above we will have the Garden of Innocence at 10:00AM on September 19Th and campus clean up later in the day at 1:00PM. The Garden of Innocence is a very moving ceremony, and all are encouraged to attend. We have been asked to name two of the babies and have chosen Ken (for Ken Allen) and Don (for Don Blankenship).

I also wanted to mention the great letter Mark Angel wrote that appeared in last month’s newsletter about what being a Knight means to him. If you didn’t get a chance to read it, please try to do so. I think in many ways we can all relate to the points he discussed. Well done Mark!

I also have some additional information about the Build-A-Bed project that I will share at the next general meeting.

OCTOBER 2024

Knight of the Month

RAMIRO RAMIREZ

October 2024

I was in the middle of my pilgrimage with Father Thomas when I was assigned to do this write up. But when I learned that Ramiro is our chosen Knight of the Month, I readily accepted the opportunity.

Ramiro has only been a knight for 10 months but has shown so much potential. He decided to join to become more involved with our Church. He said that joining the Knights of Columbus is a step forward to learn more of what to do outside of Mass. He wanted to surround himself by men sharing the same faith and from whom he can learn from. He is now a 3rd degree knight and enjoys working with his brother knights.

Family of the Month

MINH & KIET WU

October 2024

by: Ricardo Teano , Retention Committee

I have the honor today of introducing our most deserving Family of the Month. Thank you, officers, for selecting Kiet. He truly amazes me of his dedication to our order. You tell me if you agree after reading this write up.

Kiet has been a Knight since August 2022 and is currently a 4th Degree Knight. He said he was recruited by his wonderful friend Ricardo Teano, when he dropped by one Saturday to bring canned goods for our South County Food drive. He has been recruiting me for about 7 years... So... Ricardo made me do it!!! He continues to say, I truly love this man very much, and I am truly grateful for his patience, his never-ending kindness, and his friendship.
